Practice the Tai Chi Chuan may help boosting immune function and improving blood sugar control in people with type 2 diabetes, suggested by a new study published in Diabetes Cure, March 2007.
People with type 2 diabetes suffer from chronic inflammation. Strenuous exercise may boost inflammation and cause other problems. Tai Chi, in which a person performs a series of poses in a flowing motion, can not only improve the heart and lung functions of patients but also benefit the immune system function in healthy individuals, said by researchers.
Researchers had 32 men and women practice Tai Chi for 3 hours per week and last for 12 weeks. It was found that Tai Chi could improve the immune system by lowering glucose levels, said by researchers.
They conclude: "An appropriate combination of the Tai Chi Chuan exercise program with diabetic medications may greatly benefit type 2 diabetic patients."
