
The Liu He Tang Lang Quan is one kind of animal-imitation boxing. It belongs to the Northern School Mantis Boxing, and is also known as Monkey Mantis Boxing. The action and strength tends to be soft and therefore it is also known as “Soft Mantis Boxing”. It is said that there was a military offender named Wei Delin in the Emperor Tongzhi period in Qing Dynasty; he broke the prison and escaped from Dengzhou, Shandong province (now Penglai) and hidden in the Manor Lin in Zhaoyuan, Shandong province. When he recovered from the injury, in order to repay the saver, he taught the saver The Liu He Duan Chui (Six Conformities short-hammer), also known as Monkey Ma Mantis Boxing (That is the Monkey Ma Step Routine, Mantis Arm). Later it developed as Six Conformities Mantis Boxing. As the fingers of Wei look like the shape of duck toe, people also called it the “duck slap”, and later named “mantis”.
