- Fictional characters do not exist! Real heroes come from ordinary people
Recently, qigong master Wang Lin blew up the Internet. “Qigong” has become one of the most popular searching queries and master Wang Li turned to be a famous person. After 20 years of silence, since his photos with celebrities were uploaded online, there was a lot of attention paid to him.
From the 80’s years of last century, so-called “masters” started appearing frequently. Each appearance was accompanied by miracle. For example: “220 cancer treatment”, “Hold breath under water for 2 hours”, “Snake coming out an empty pot” etc. All of these “miracles” made people deeply admire the “masters”. Those manipulation performances worked with ordinary people, but experts could always see the truth. Frankly speaking, doctor Zhang Yu, immortal Li Yi and even master Wang Lin are just mart on planning and calculating.
First of all, they concentrated on people’s’ curiosity and belief. They are talented actors, who made crowd believe it their show. They know how to control people, how to create the right atmosphere. Chinese proverb says: “Use the banner as tiger skin”, which means, “Deck oneself to frighten people”. Using the tricks, those “masters” got a lot of attention. With the attention of celebrities or other famous people, they exaggerated for their own recognition, making the “fame” bubble bigger and bigger. In addition, limits of science provided those “masters” with life-giving soil.Science is not a panacea; there is no doubt about it.For example, science can't explain many religious questions. Recognition of the existence of God, it is the religious question. But if you sayyou know who God is, or somebody says he is God, that's ridiculous. The key is thinking rationally.Human understanding of science is not a panacea. But this does not mean that people need to rely on non-rational view of the world, otherwise it would be impossible.
So, why are there still that many people believing in “Qigong master” and all the other masters? This probably has a direct relationship with people's work, life, environment, etc.Objectively speaking, having bad times at work is very normal, because life cannot always be smooth. Just like doing business you have profit and have loss; or product design is good or bad. But you can never make blind decisions just because you are in a bad mood. Cannot weave yourself an excuse to escape; say that God is not fair, good luck hasn’t come yet etc. You had betterincrease yourself-confidence in ability to change the fate. The “master” who pretends being God, can change his destiny easily, Let him do his business, earn money and lead his life in peace. This is normal, if these “miracles” happen in the world of ordinary people, who don’t have proper education or broad outlook. However, in the rapid development of the society, a lot of well-educated people with high social position are still cheated by “masters”. How can this be explained?
These phenomena are clearly related to the lack of education. In 2003 the domestic survey data showed that: The proportion of Chinese citizens with basic scientific literacy is only 2%. People with scientific and technical education background can skillfully do calculating, but the scientific methodology is still not clear to them. According to facts above, we can see that there are still a lot of people who need go to ancient fengshui or eight diagrams, qigong or religion to find spiritual resources. And that is the reason why there are still a lot of fake call for wind and rain “masters”.
Qigong is a traditional Chinese sport. It requires practicing in a quiet environment, keeping special body posture, being in control of breathe (Pranayama), as well as meditation (aligning or God), and muscle relaxation for calm purpose. Experiments show that this method can make the sympathetic nerve activity decreased, heart rate and respiratory rate, blood pressure, body consumption reduction, EEG a wave increases, the internal body to maintain a relative balance, a relatively stable state, and all of that has a great curing effect. For thousands of years, it has played a certain role in enhancing people's health and treatment of certain diseases. Why in recent years, qigong is considered as a miracle? I have reviewed some information recently. Beijing Anding Hospital Professor Yang Huayu gives a direct answer to the question above: This is because the 80s years of last century, many strange and eccentric Qigong schools started appearing rapidly. Among them, there were many schools which purpose was not to achieve body relaxation. They inappropriately exaggerated the role of Qigong, emphasized the ability to get some kind of supernatural skills and powers – prolong life, get God’s blessing, develop the supervision etc. It is not difficult to see that these have been far beyond the scope of Qigong as a Chinese traditional sport, and has become speculation around the name of "qigong". Therefore, Qigong lost his true meaning.
Today, Wang Lin's myth was exposed, but if the scientific and rational power is not strong enough, people still put themselves into the fear of the unknown, desire for success, hopes for blessing. That is why mysterious "Qigong masters" still have living soil, they will be appearing again and again in the future. To say goodbye to these "masters" forever, we need to recall the scientific and rational spirit.
