Holding tree skill is also called as Maitreya Buddha Skill, and is one hard and forceful exercise of Yang style. This skill is to practice the arm force and stability strength of chest and belly by means of embracing thick trees of one armful. Stand before one old tree, hold it with two arms, hands hooking together. Exert force to grasp the tree and try to pull it at times. Practice in this way for several times each day until you are tired. In the first year, your arms will be gradually forcefully, which can shake the tree with one attack. In the second year, the tree will be withered while you chest and belly become as hard and forceful as stone and iron. In the third year, the tree is to be pull out of earth. Then the skill is accomplished.
